By Rachel Shipe & Bailey Donley, owners of BR Collective
When we were building BR Collective, the biggest decision wasn’t the chairs or the paint colors. It was the color line.
Whatever we chose would touch every client’s hair and scalp. It would fill the air we breathe all day. And honestly, it would say a lot about what kind of salon we wanted to be. We’re intentional about every product we bring into the studio, and this was the most important one. We chose NATULIQUE for every color service, and here’s why.
What we were looking for
We had a short list, and we weren’t willing to compromise on any of it.
Gentler on hair and scalp, without giving up rich, lasting color or real gray coverage. No ammonia fumes, because we work side by side in a small studio all day and so do our guests. Ingredients we could actually explain to you in plain language. And professional results: dimensional blondes, glossy brunettes, full coverage and corrections, not a watered-down version.
Who NATULIQUE is
NATULIQUE is a Danish professional brand that’s been making salon products since 1998. They describe themselves as the first complete certified-organic professional hair care line, and everything is built around certified-organic ingredients and their own standard, which they call 360BIOCERT. They’re cruelty-free, and many of their care products carry the Vegan Society trademark.
Their color is ammonia-free and made with certified-organic ingredients. They keep things like PPD, MEA and resorcinol to a minimum, and it still covers gray completely. If you’re curious about the science (and the honest debate around it), Bailey wrote all about whether ammonia-free color is actually better.
What it feels like in the chair
The first thing people notice is what’s missing: that sharp salon smell. Color day just feels calmer. Guests with sensitive scalps tell us they’re more comfortable, and hair feels soft at the rinse instead of stripped.
Everyone’s hair is different, so we always start with a real conversation about yours. But this is exactly the experience we opened BR Collective to give: beautiful color, with the health of your hair at the center of it.
Every color service, no upcharge
Some salons offer a gentler color line as a premium add-on. We didn’t want that. Every color service on our menu uses NATULIQUE, from a $90 Gloss & Finish to Full Custom Color. There’s nothing to ask for and nothing extra to pay. It’s just how we do color.
The products we use (and love) at home
Great hair isn’t only about how it looks when you leave the salon. It’s about how it feels, how it grows and how you care for it long after your appointment. So we use NATULIQUE shampoos, conditioners and masks at the bowl, and we carry the same products in our shop. A few favorites for Wilmington’s sun and humidity:
- Everyday Hairwash & Conditioner for gentle, everyday care of color-treated hair
- Nourishing Anti-Frizz Hairwash & Conditioner for those humid, frizzy days
- Heat and Sun Protector for beach days and blowouts
- Hydrating Hair Mask once a week for dry or lightened ends
Everything in the shop is ready for pickup at the salon.
